Hurricane Irma – Make Sure You’re Covered!

Hurricane Irma is in the Atlantic and is looking to pose a major risk to South Florida. Therefore, now would be a good time to review your policy to make sure you have the coverage needed to protect your assets in the wake of a natural disaster. Irma currently has wind speeds of 175 mph. It is right now labeled as a category 5 and could grow stronger. We highly recommend having your insurance settled so that you can have peace of mind knowing your home is covered from either water damage or structural damage. When purchasing flood insurance the policy usually takes up to 30 days to process so it is important to have your insurance settled ahead of time before facing a potential flood. Binding restrictions are already coming up from Home Insurance companies meaning there is a hold on issuing new policies. It is important in these events to make sure that all your premiums are up to date.

The situation occurring in Texas due to Harvey is devastating and this is the last thing we want for anyone. Harvey wreaked havoc upon Texas causing massive flooding everywhere with the majority not having flood insurance. This leaves their homes in devastation and they are not covered meaning they will have to pay out of pocket. Flood Insurance will pay for all covered losses and unlike federal assistance loans, the money does not have to be paid back. It’s also important to secure your home in the case of massive damages being struck against it during a natural disaster. Having homeowners insurance doesn’t mean you’re protected in the event of a flood. Everyone needs to double-check their policy and see if they’re covered against wind and that their coverage limits are appropriate. It is important to note that you never wait last minute to get insurance because your coverage won’t kick in until after the natural disaster, therefore, rendering your policy ineffective during a storm. We want the best for our clients and we want to make sure everyone is protected ahead of time.

These damages become really expensive and the last thing we want for anyone is to be stuck in an unwinnable financial situation. If you’re in the market for home or flood insurance please give us a call at 239-591-0963 for our Naples location or 239-931-5316 for our Fort Myers office.
